Intros & PUMPS
2nd Period open
This video played shortly before 2nd period puck drop this past season. I wanted to use light and the outlines to emphasize the strong beats in the song, so I linked those two elements to the audio track via After Effects.
SPIDER-VERSE PUMP
I put this pump video together shortly after seeing Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in theaters. It was such a terrific film in every way, but visually it inspired me so much that I knew I wanted to apply that look to some Blues highlights right away. I used one of the songs I loved from the film as well. Some of the elements I used were pre-made, while others (the outlined look of the highlights, colorful horizontal lines during skating clips, “Spidey sense” in a shot of our goaltender) I custom made for this in After Effects.
“DREAM ON” PLAYOFF OPEN
I was tasked with editing an open for the 2019 Playoffs to Aerosmith’s “Dream On” and updating it each round.
ANIMAL PUMP
This pump came about from me just wanting to do something different and a bit ridiculous. Drawing parallels between the actions of animals compared to our players with a totally fast-paced song just fires me up for some reason! Also, Motley Crue is AWESOME!
STAR WARS OPEN
I’m a huge Star Wars fan, so this is always a fun video to make each season. I wanted to emphasize the light side/dark side elements here and worked in the lightsabers using After Effects.
CRUNCH TIME PUMP
We had a bit of a gap in our in-game content when it came to “late in a close game” scenarios, so I wanted to make a video we could use in those situations. I’ve always loved Marvel’s intro to their films, so I adapted that to hockey using stills from our team photographer to set more of a serious, gritty tone. I worked a lot with sound in this video too, making sure almost every clip had at least one noticeable effect backing it whether it be a hit, shot, save, puck hitting a shin pad on a blocked shot.
FAN OPEN
We wanted to have a video to play before our open sequence to get the crowd hyped up, so I dug up a bunch of quotes from our players about how the fans make a difference. I then cut the piece while coordinating with our motion graphics designers on a cool look to get the message across.
